Austin City Council members approved a $1.77 million contract for street lighting upgrades Dec. 12.

The details

The project is aimed at increasing safety on city streets, according to a city update. Crews will be improving street lighting at 14 different locations across the city:
  • 45th Street at Red River Street
  • Braker Lane at Stonelake Boulevard
  • Cullen Lane
  • E. Riverside Drive at Tinnin Ford Road
  • E. Riverside Drive at Wickersham Lane
  • E. Riverside Drive at Willow Creek Drive
  • Pearce Lane
  • S. First Street at Barton Springs Road
  • N. Lamar Boulevard at St. Johns Avenue
  • Oltorf Street at Parker Lane
  • Oltorf Street at S. Congress Avenue
  • Slaughter Lane at Brodie Lane
  • Slaughter Lane at S. First Street
  • S. Pleasant Valley Road at E. Riverside Drive
Work will begin on Pearce Lane in southeast Austin starting January 2025, with the remaining locations following. Construction at all locations is expected to last roughly eight months, according to the city's transportation and public works department.
