Brass Poppy, a new cocktail bar, is now open in the lobby of Hotel Van Zandt in downtown's Rainey Street Historic District.

The lounge serves '70s-, '80s- and '90s-inspired drinks overseen by Lead Bartender Curtis Janto—formerly of Roosevelt Room and Equipment Room—as well as global bites from Executive Chef Sergio Ledesma.

Highlighted menu items include the Grasshopper with house crème de menthe and macadamia whip, and the gin-centered Pink Lady with lemon, spiced grenadine, hazelnut oil, dry sherry and pisco.

“At Brass Poppy, we’re not just serving cocktails; we’re crafting experiences,” Janto said in a statement. “Each cocktail is a nod to our history, with a fresh perspective. We’re all about pushing boundaries.”

The food menu features small dishes like the French Onion Layer Dip with piquillo pepper, egg, chives and amber caviar; Bluefin Tuna Toro with dashi cremeux, chili oil and fermented gooseberry; and sweets like Cookies and Milk with Dutch chocolate, foie torchon and truffle-infused cream.

"We wanted to create a menu that feels both familiar and unexpected,” Ledesma said. "Much like Austin itself, the offerings at Brass Poppy are creative yet approachable—a perfect blend of innovation and comfort, promising something to delight every palate."

Brass Poppy joins the 605 cafe and Geraldine’s restaurant at Hotel Van Zandt, and arrives as part of an overall lobby renovations and refresh by the MARKZEFF design team. The bar now features '60s- and '70s-inspired metals, vintage furniture sourced from Texas and custom Nepalese carpets.

The new lounge is open daily starting at 4 p.m. Reservations aren't required, but available via Tock.
