Austin-founded chain Tacodeli is slated to open in its ninth Austin location this summer, taking over the space where Masa y Más taqueria sat on South Lamar Boulevard.

The details

Robert Espinosa founded Tacodeli in 1999 and now has more than a dozen locations throughout the state.

"With Tacodeli celebrating 25 years in Austin this year, we are so excited to continue to grow in our hometown and be part of the South Lamar corridor," Espinosa said in a news release. "We're joining some spectacular restaurants and retailers that have made that part of Austin home for many years."

The first "standalone" location of Tacodeli will feature an expanded cocktail menu with a new signature drink: the Doña Rita, a spicy cocktail featuring the restaurant's Salsa Doña.

The restaurant will also offer its usual breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, plus a pet-friendly patio.

What else

Masa y Más was founded by Hopdoddy co-founders Larry Perdido and Chuck Smith in early 2023. The business's website now links to the Tacodeli website and has a message that was also shared via Instagram.

"We are excited for our friends at Tacodeli to continue the Austin taco story on South Lamar," the message reads. "We appreciate all of your support, thank you."

Representatives for Masa y Más did not respond to requests for comment as of press time.
