American Red Cross
The American Red Cross of Central and South Texas is working to open a new regional headquarters in East Austin. The new center is expected to help the nonprofit better meet a growing need for blood donations, further support military families and veterans, and provide faster, more efficient responses during natural disasters and emergencies.

The owners behind the Hank’s Austin restaurant, bar and cafe will open a pizza shop next door. The business will serve New York-style pizza offered whole and by the slice alongside salads and appetizers.

The studio will offer dance and fitness classes for children and adults of all skill levels, including barre, pilates and yoga instruction. The family-friendly business will provide child care and workspaces for parents. Owner Monica Chin is a former NBA dancer for the San Antonio Spurs who has over 25 years or experience teaching dance, including directing choreography for the Austin Spurs.

The new wellness center will feature a hot sauna and natural-stone cold plunge pool alongside a fire-lit lounge, red-light recovery lounge and coffee and smoothie bar. The business will host a grand opening celebration Nov. 22 featuring pop-ups from wellness brands, live music, hot sauna and cold plunge rotations and fitness and recovery activities.

Keep Austin Beautiful
The nonprofit will celebrate its 40th anniversary at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 13. The event will feature remarks from Keep Austin Beautiful founder and former Austin Mayor Ron Mullen as well as exclusive new art from David Regone honoring Lady Bird Lake. The environmental organization was started through the city of Austin’s public works department in 1985 and became a nonprofit in 2010.

The South Austin Mexican restaurant celebrated 30 years serving customers at its location off East Riverside Drive. The business started as a taco stand in Matamoros, Mexico in the early 1980s before starting its headquarters in Austin.
