Buda City Council received an update on the FM 1626 and RM 967 intersection study during its May 20 meeting. The intersection is one of the city’s busiest and sees heavy traffic throughout the day, according to the city presentation and city staff.
The overview
The intersection is near Dahlstrom Middle School, Elm Grove Elementary, two medical clinics and a fire station, according to the city presentation. Both FM 1626 and RM 967 have four driving lanes and two turn lanes.
Traffic counts show an average daily volume of 29,189-32,517 vehicles on FM 1626 and 15,075-19,243 vehicles on RM 967, the presentation states.
One public meeting has been held so far, along with an online option that allowed residents comments. Based on resident input, the top concerns are traffic congestion and safety, particularly for those who rely on the intersection for daily commutes, according to the city presentation.
Common themes from public comments include:
- Severe traffic congestion and poor flow
- Safety concerns and accident risks
- Need for infrastructure improvements
- Impacts of school-related traffic
- Pedestrian and bicycle safety
