Construction on West Hopkins Street in San Marcos entered its fourth phase in November as part of the city’s Hopkins Street Improvements Project from Bishop to Moore streets.

Traffic detours were put in place in May 2020 up Moore Street on the east and up Bishop Street on the west to Craddock Avenue.

The multifaceted project involved the replacement of water lines and wastewater structures, an improved drainage system and total reconstruction of the street with added curbs and sidewalks. Reduced speeds are included in the new design of the road, according to city staff.

The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization awarded the city a $3 million grant for the project, and its total cost is estimated at just over $10 million.

Construction crews began pouring concrete driveways and sidewalks in October, and storm sewer installation is ongoing. The project contractor is Jordan Foster Construction.

Project completion is anticipated for early 2022.
