According to a news release from the county, the patient is recovering at a local hospital and “at no time did they expose any Hays County residents to this disease.”
The patient reported symptoms to the Hays County Local Health Department after returning to the area from a trip to the west coast of the United States and went to the hospital.
“As this is a pandemic disease, we fully expected to see cases in Hays County and have been preparing for this situation,” County Judge Ruben Becerra said in the news release. “We have been working with local and state officials to ensure that protocols are established and followed, and that we have access to additional resources should they be necessary.”
According to the county, this is a presumed case of the coronavirus, and official test results are expected sometime next week. A press conference to provide more information to the public is scheduled for Sunday.
