Katy Armstrong and Jose Luis Perez are seeking votes in the Hays CISD trustee, Single-Member District 2 election in May. Vice President Johnny Flores is the current District 2 trustee.
Voters will also select a candidate for HCISD trustee, at-large.

Why are you running for Hays CISD board of trustees?
I am passionate about education and want to give back to my amazing community. As Trustee, I will be a strong advocate for families in our district and a responsible steward of our tax dollars.
What is the biggest challenge facing the district, and how would you address it?
The biggest concern is our current budget shortfall. The State has failed to adequately fund schools across Texas. When elected, I will work with the district to balance the budget while remembering that these decisions will have very real consequences for my community.
If elected, what goals would you aim to achieve?
With our continued growth, I will find ways to equitably distribute resources so all students receive a high-quality educational experience. I will also be an advocate for families who are struggling with life’s hardships, be it financial, mental, or physical.

Just as Hays CISD makes it 100% possible, I am committed to ensuring that not only my own kids but all students have a positive, impactful experience in order to achieve their full potential.

Why are you running for Hays CISD board of trustees?
As a member of this community my children are students of this district. I hope to bring steady, common-sense leadership focused on students, parents, and teachers; to ensure our district prioritizes academic excellence, fiscal responsibility, and transparency while keeping politics out of classrooms. Decisions should always put kids first.
What is the biggest challenge facing the district, and how would you address it?
By far the biggest challenge facing the district is balancing rapid growth with responsible budgeting. We must protect classrooms while managing taxpayer dollars wisely. I will advocate for clear financial oversight, long term planning, and open communication so families understand where money is going and how decisions directly impact students.
If elected, what goals would you aim to achieve?
If elected, the goals I aim to achieve are to strengthen academic performance, improve transparency in district decisions, support and retain high quality teachers, and ensure responsible financial management. Families should feel confident that their schools are focused on student success and that every dollar is being spent with purpose.
What else do you want voters to know about you?
I want the voters to know that I'm a father, husband, and hands on community volunteer who believes leadership should be calm, steady, and solutions focused. I will listen first, work collaboratively, and always prioritize what's best for students, not special interests, political agendas, or personal recognition.
