Mark Gleason and Omar Baca will face each other in a runoff election in December for San Marcos City Council Place 5.
Neither Gleason nor Baca received more than 50% of the vote, but they received the most ballots of the three candidates in the race. Gleason received 6,674 votes—35.36%—and Baca had 6,150—32.59%.
Baca beat Zach Sambrano by 101 votes.
The runoff is tentatively set for Dec. 1, but the date is not official yet, according to a spokesperson for the city of San Marcos.
There will also be a runoff election for mayor in the city of San Marcos between incumbent Jane Hughson and challenger Juan Miguel Arredondo.
Results are updated as of 9:45 a.m. Nov. 4 and are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county clerk. Under Texas election law, the clerk accepts and counts mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by Nov. 4, if they were sent from inside the U.S., or Nov. 9 if they were sent from outside the U.S.

Unofficial results are in for Hays County and Mark Gleason has been declared the winner in the race for San Marcos City Council Place 5 with 35.36% of votes, or 6,674 ballots. Omar Baca received 32.59% of the vote and 6,150 ballots, and Zach Sambrano has 32.05% with 6,049 ballots.

The first return of unofficial early voting totals Nov. 3 from Hays County show Mark Gleason with an early lead in the race for San Marcos City Council Place 5.
Gleason leads Omar Baca with a 35.57% share of all early votes. Baca has 33.12%. Zach Sambrano follows with 31.32%.
More than 98,000 county residents cast ballots by mail or during in-person early voting, which accounts for 64.24% of 152,840 registered voters in the county. Results are updated as of 7:25 p.m. and are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county clerk.
