Citing a high likelihood of sleet, freezing rain, and snow, Texas State University announced that classes are canceled on Jan. 21.
The notification, sent to students via email, followed a similar announcement by Hays CISD, which canceled Jan. 21 classes, citing the same weather concerns.
The overview
According to the university’s email, the National Weather Service forecasts sleet, freezing rain, and snow beginning Monday and continuing through Wednesday morning.
The email states that all in-person and online classes on the San Marcos and Round Rock campuses are canceled. Faculty have been advised not to move in-person classes online.
All on-campus events are also canceled, and dining services will operate on a limited schedule.
Texas State employees may work remotely with their supervisor's approval, though this is not mandatory. However, weather-essential employees are required to report to work in person as usual, according to the email.
What’s next?
Classes for Wednesday, Jan. 22, have not been canceled at time of publication. The email states that the weather is expected to improve by Wednesday afternoon, with sunshine in the forecast.
The university plans to resume normal operations at 8 a.m. Wednesday but will monitor weather conditions and may implement a delayed start if necessary, according to the email.
