Perkins+Will presented the San Marcos CISD board of trustees with an update on the new $30 million elementary school going into the Trace development on Monday. Construction is set to begin in June, according to Senior Project Manager Koleman Uresti. Exterior materials used include metal panels, Texas limestone and emperor cut brick. Uresti said the interior was designed using inspiration from San Marcos, the river and Texas Hill Country, using "natural colors" such as blue, green, orange, purple and brown in the design. "[The colors] allows us to have that wayfinding path for each of those grade levels," he said. For example, fourth graders could be in the purple hallway. At their January meeting trustees will see site plans and floor plans for the high school addition. The high school addition, the new elementary school, the new transportation center, and several other renovations and additions to schools in the district are paid for through a $107.3 million bond approved by voters in May.
