The Hays County Local Health Department reported 18 new cases of the coronavirus July 31, bringing the total to 4,315.

Numbers provided by the county also showed active cases fell by 35 July 31; the active case total is now 2,861.

Currently, 25 people are hospitalized, and 53 additional recoveries have been reported. An estimated 1,426 have recovered from the virus. The death toll in the county is 28.

Hays County epidemiologist Eric Schneider continues to remind residents that the pandemic is ongoing, and safety precautions must continue.

“Today’s numbers may look encouraging, but the COVID-19 pandemic is not over,” Schneider said. “It’s still critical that everyone in Hays County is working together to slow the spread. Wash your hands, wear a mask and stay distanced from others. Avoiding large groups and get-togethers is also a key method for slowing down this virus.”
