Hundreds of people gathered at both Kyle and Buda's solar eclipse viewing party for a coveted pair of solar glasses and free activities put on by each city's public library.
People began lining up in front of Buda Public Library around 10 a.m. According to Buda Public Information Officer David Marino, approximately 1,200 people gathered for the event. The library gave out 500 pairs of solar glasses on a first come, first serve basis.
Attendees could sit on the library lawn while listening to music, eating popcorn and cupcakes provided by the library as well as participating in arts and craft activities while waiting for the eclipse.

In Kyle, the city's public library handed out 75 pairs of glasses on a first come, first serve basis. Nearly 500 people attended the event, according to Kyle Public Information Officer Kim Hilsenbeck.
The library had a live viewing of the solar eclipse showing on a big screen and provided snacks and activities. The library also had a station for people to may do-it-yourself viewing devices.
The eclipse reached peak time at 1:10 p.m. and ended completely for Central Texas at 2:39 p.m., according to NASA. The next solar eclipse will be April 8, 2024.
