Local live music lovers can add another recurring event to their weekend plans when a new live music series rolls into downtown Buda on May 23.

What’s happening

The City of Buda and Buda Economic Corporation have partnered with Sun Radio to launch Southbound, a family-friendly concert series every fourth Friday from 7-9 p.m. at Meridian.

The first concert will feature The Mighty Orq, a Texas artist whose music is “a blend of delta blues, [bluegrass], folk, roots and psychedelic rock,” according to his website.

Also of note

In March, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Buda’s designation as a Music Friendly Texas Certified Community by the Texas Music Office after completing the certification process.

According to the TMO website, the title shows music industry professionals that Buda is serious about attracting and developing industry growth.

“We’re excited to bring this live music series to our community and visitors alike in alignment with our recent designation as a Music Friendly Community by the Governor’s Office,” said Micah Grau, Buda city manager, in a news release. “This partnership between Sun Radio, the Buda EDC and Main Street Program not only celebrates Texas artists, but also supports our local economy by drawing attention to downtown Buda’s unique shops and restaurants.”

Southbound concerts will be free to attend and broadcast live across the Sun Radio Network. Listeners can also stream online at SunRadio.com.
