The city of Round Rock has several ongoing transportation projects happening throughout the city. Check out some of the latest updates on road construction.
Upcoming projects
Traffic signal at Chandler Creek and Kenney Fort Boulevard
Project: A traffic signal and pedestrian improvements are planned at the intersection of Chandler Creek and Kenney Fort Boulevards, utilizing the existing road configuration.
Update: This project is in the design phase after contracts were approved in February.
Project: A roundabout will be added to the intersection of Sam Bass and Hairy Man Roads to improve traffic flow and safety.
Update: The city is conducting community feedback sessions about this project.
Project: The project will widen the four-lane road to a six-lane road between Double Creek Drive and Via Sonoma Trail.
Update: City officials began the process of using eminent domain to secure right-of-way property for the road widening project in May.
Project: The project will add right-turn lanes for both eastbound and northbound traffic, make drainage improvements and add a traffic signal to the intersection of Chandler Road and CR 119.
Update: Council approved a contract with Dan Williams Co. for the project.
Ongoing projects
Neighborhood street maintenance
Project: Streets to receive maintenance—milling and new asphalt overlay, pavement patching as well as curb, sidewalk and driveway approach repairs—are located in the Chisholm Valley, Windy Park, Stone Oak and Indian Ridge neighborhoods.
Update: Crews began work in May.
Project: The project includes constructing ground anchors to stabilize retaining walls, and replacing the roadway approach and sidewalks.
Update: As of May, northbound lanes for this project are expected to open in June.
Project: The city is reconstructing Chisholm Trail Road from Sam Bass Road to RM 620, with drainage, pedestrian and lighting improvements.
Update: The discovery of utility lines within the project have delayed its completion from summer 2026 to fall.
Project: The city is reconstructing Greenlawn Boulevard from an existing four-lane divided roadway to a six-lane divided urban roadway with pedestrian and lighting improvements.
Update: Design for the project was updated in May to include a new traffic signal and turn lane near the IDEA Public Schools campus.
Project: This project will widen the existing four-lane roadway to a six-lane arterial thoroughfare with a raised median between Via Sonoma Trail and Red Bud Lane.
Update: Some of the driveways for the project have been completed amid utility relocation difficulties.
Project: The project includes a new four-lane divided roadway with shared use paths, extending over Brushy Creek from Creek Bend Boulevard to Old Settlers Boulevard.
Update: Crews began placing traffic signal arms at the road’s intersections with Creek Bend Boulevard and Old Settlers Boulevard in April.
Project: The project includes upgrading an existing two-lane road to a four-lane divided roadway with intersection and pedestrian improvements.
Update: All work on the northbound lanes is expected to be completed by the end of summer, with construction on southbound lanes to begin soon.
