Round Rock City Council pushed the Wyoming Springs Boulevard project along with the approval of a change order at its June 26 meeting. The project is still on schedule, Director of Public Works Michael Thane said.

About the project

Construction on an extension to Wyoming Springs Boulevard began in December and includes a four-lane divided roadway and shared-use paths from Creek Bend Boulevard to Old Settlers Boulevard, and extending over Brushy Creek.

“It’s a beautiful roadway—it has two bridges that cross Brushy Creek and Hairy Man Road,” Thane said.

By offering an additional north-south route in west Round Rock, the Wyoming Springs extension is expected to reduce traffic congestion on Old Settlers Boulevard, Sam Bass Road and Creek Bend Boulevard, according to city staff.

The project will also connect the road’s shared-use paths to the Brushy Creek Regional Trail, running along Hairy Man Road.

The update

The first change order with contractor Capital Excavation Company adjusts costs due to overtime hours to work on a waterline tie in, encapsulating an Atmos Energy gas line and some design changes to the bridge work.

Despite the additional work, the project is still on schedule with an anticipated completion in November 2026.

“We’re progressing as planned,” Thane said.

The change order adds about $460,000 to the original $25.9 million contract, funded by Transportation and Economic Development Corporation sales tax revenues.
