Overpasses along RM 620 at both Chisholm Trail and Lake Creek Drive opened for use Nov. 13.

The details

The $27.4 million project is the product of a conjoined effort between the Texas Department of Transportation and the city of Round Rock.

“It’s important to know that it was a TxDOT construction project, but the vision—as it’s operating today—was all Round Rock,” said Gary Hudder, Round Rock director of transportation.

The road work encompassed the segment of RM 620 from Deep Wood Drive to I-35, with improvements intended to increase safety and reduce travel times during high traffic periods in the area, according to city information.

Construction began in March 2020 and was initially supposed to be completed within two years. However, the project is expected to be entirely completed by the end of 2023.

Improvements include:
  • Overpasses at Chisholm Trail and Lake Creek Drive
  • Frontage roads both east and westbound
  • Widening lanes along RM 620
  • Increased bicycle and pedestrian accommodations
  • Chisholm Trail roundabout
