Demolition began on the Cactus Nights Sports Bar building this week to make way for a new dance hall and bar at 109 N. Sheppard St., Round Rock.

The property was recently purchased by the Villarreal family, which owns the Long Branch Saloon and La Esquina Cantina. Minerva Villarreal told Community Impact Newspaper that it is too early in the process to share details like a name or when the new venue might open.

The former home of the Cactus Nights Sports Bar will be replaced by a two-level structure with a patio, according to Villarreal and the city of Round Rock. The new owners had intended to renovate the interior of the building, but found that it needed to be torn down and rebuilt. A 2010 city of Round Rock historic resources survey estimates the building was constructed in the 1940s. These records show that at the time of the survey, the bar was known as Kuno's.

Cactus Nights Sports Bar was established "decades ago" by the Sanchez family, according to the bar's Facebook page. Community Impact Newspaper has reached out to the former owners of the property and will update this story should a statement be given.
