Ascension Seton Williamson will soon be able to expand its capacity to care for the growing population of Williamson County.

The Round Rock hospital broke ground on a $230 million expansion Sept. 26, anticipating an opening in 2026.

About the project

The 216,000 square-foot, six-story tower planned to be constructed as an expansion of the existing hospital will allow staff to take on the increased demand for care that has arisen with population growth in Williamson County, hospital president Andrew Gnann said.

Once completed, the expanded tower will have :
  • An additional 160 beds, bringing the total number of beds to 341
  • Two new operating rooms
  • An additional MRI
  • A new catheterization lab
  • A new observation unit
  • An expanded emergency room
34,000 square feet of the facility expansion will also be dedicated to outpatient wound care, cardiac rehab and pediatric rehab.

Previously, the hospital shared that the expansion would create hundreds of jobs for local health care workers.

What they're saying

By expanding capacity, Ascension Seton officials said they would be able to also increase access to care for people living nearby, who might otherwise have to seek care father from home or even out of the county.

"We're part of a ministry that cares for those who are poor and vulnerable and also those who have a choice," Ascension Texas president and CEO Andy Davis said. "Right here in Williamson County, we're providing state of the art opportunities for people to continue to heal close to home, to their families."

Did you know?

This expansion is just one of many that are possible for Ascension Seton Williamson, Gnann said. Per an agreement with the Avery family, who previously owned the land on which the current hospital stands, Ascension Seton Williamson has access to land with borders starting at the PAM Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Round Rock to the south, stretching up to University Boulevard in the north. Entities that would like to purchase and develop Avery family land near the hospital must also partner with Ascension, he said, in the way that Texas State University at Round Rock and the Austin Community College District have.

What else?

Ascension Seton officials also announced the launch of Here Care, a fundraising campaign geared toward accelerating innovation in health care within Ascension Seton Williamson.

"While we know that Ascension is investing over $230 million in this project, there's an opportunity for philanthropy to come in and further accelerate and innovate things that are already going to be built here at this hospital in the coming years," said Jennifer Hayhurst, executive director of the Ascension Seton Williamson Foundation. "The Here Care campaign will raise funds to support the growth of our hospital through quality specialty care services, leading edge technology and equipment, as well as programs that impact our families, our patients and the associates that work here."
