Round Rock City Council amended a contract for the new tennis and pickleball courts at Old Settlers Park during its meeting Oct. 24. The buildout project, which will bring major renovations to the park and surrounding area, began in September.
The current situation
The city is already contracted with SpawGlass Contractors for the Old Settlers buildout project. Council reviewed a resolution to amend the guaranteed maximum price agreement to $13,971,898 for the park’s tennis and pickleball courts, which passed unanimously.
The contract includes 17 tennis courts and nine pickleball courts with seating, site utilities and lighting. There are currently 12 tennis courts already at the park and no pickleball courts. An additional parking lot will be added by Silver Slugger Complex and will tie into Harrell Parkway.
“I think we’re gonna see that we have quite a busy complex once it gets going,” Director of Parks and Recreation Rick Atkins said at an Oct. 22 agenda packet briefing.
About the project
Future plans for Old Settlers Park include:
- Upgrades to Rock’N River water park, including additional parking
- Civil and electrical upgrades for built-in infrastructure for events
- Expanding the Multipurpose Complex, including six new fields
- Improvements to Harrell Parkway
The buildout project is funded by 2023 voter-approved bonds.
What’s next?
Construction for the courts will begin Dec. 24 and wrap up in November of next year.
