Round Rock ISD administrators and staff are working to finalize academic calendars for the 2025-26 school year, which trustees are expected to vote on in September, per an August board update.

What you need to know

Two draft calendar options were presented to trustees Aug. 15. Both have similar qualities, with a key difference being the inclusion of Rosh Hashanah, making Sept. 22 a student holiday in draft option No. 2:
  • The first day of school would be Aug. 13.
  • The first student and staff holiday would be Sept. 1.
  • Fall break would occur Nov. 24-28.
  • Winter break would begin Dec. 19, 2025, and end Jan. 6, 2026.
  • Spring break would begin March 16 and end March 20.
  • The last day of school would be May 21, 2026.
The details

Kayren Gray, Round Rock ISD's chief of access and opportunity, shared that community members expressed the following preferences for calendars for the 2024-25 school year in surveys:
  • Starting the school year in August
  • Having a one-week fall break
  • Having a two-week winter break
  • Having a one-week spring break
  • Ending the school year before Memorial Day
Gray also shared that surveyed community members expressed preference for draft No. 2 over draft No. 1.

What they're saying

Gray shared that the district would also implement a policy preventing students from being penalized in extracurriculars for observing religious holidays and create a new policy for makeup coursework.

"This fall, we are starting a cultural recognition and religious practices committee to really understand our diverse community, and also their needs to educate them about different things that our students may be experiencing outside of campus that may impact their academics if they are absent," Gray said.

What's next?

The final versions of both calendar options will be presented to the board Sept. 19 for consideration, per Gray's presentation.
