The Round Rock ISD board of education voted late Jan. 27 to request the independent investigation of Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez conclude and a report be provided to the board prior to its next meeting on Feb. 17.

Azaiez’s leave continues pending the outcome of an investigation of underlying conduct described in a protective order the Travis County District Court issued in July 2021 or a decision by the board.

The lone agenda item for the Jan. 27 meeting was to "deliberate and consider the appointment, employment, evaluation, reassignment, duties, discipline or dismissal of the superintendent," that could result in actions ranging from the removal of administrative leave, reinstatement and disciplinary action such as termination, or the appointment of an interim superintendent.

After 51 minutes of public comment, the board spent more than 4 hours in executive session before voting 5-2 to push the decision into February.

Comments from district and non-district residents both supported Azaiez and supported termination of the three-year, $350,000 annual base-salary contract he signed in June 2021.

Azaiez is on administrative leave, a recommendation by Texas Education Agency monitor David Faltys approved by the board on Jan. 6. An independent investigator was hired out of that meeting and updated the board at a meeting Jan. 20.
