"We're looking for substantial completion around October [and] hoping for some move-in dates around November," Director of General Services Chad McDowell said at the meeting. "It's going really well."
Zooming in
During the remodel, contractors found leaks in the windows, causing mold to grow in the walls of the building. The supplemental contract with Braun and Butler Construction will replace 19 windows, and install new flashing and waterproofing.
"As we went through the programming on this, we tried to preserve the historical windows," McDowell said. "We realized those historical windows were compromised."
The city will also work to preserve the look of the original windows.
"They should look really close to what we have," McDowell said. "People won't even know the difference but they will not leak anymore."
The total project cost comes out to $303,932 and will be paid for by general self-financed construction funds.
About the project
The paseo project and Griffith Building remodel will transform the former public library, adding an art gallery, visitors center and space for the Round Rock Chamber of Commerce to the 44,000-square-foot building. Additionally, the paseo will connect East Main Street to East Liberty Avenue and the new public library.
A new pedestrian crossing in Round Rock's downtown also recently opened as part of the renovation project. The crossing connects Prete Plaza to the new paseo, currently undergoing construction.
