Round Rock’s Bob Bennett Complex, which houses the city's public works divisions, will undergo an expansion to include the community and neighborhood services and general services departments. The expansion is being done across three phases, estimated to be fully complete by 2029.

What happened

City Council approved the appointment of Hensel Phelps Construction Company as the construction manager at risk at a Sept. 12 meeting, which means the company will oversee the next three phases from design through completion. Hensel Phelps will work with Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc. to review the master plan for the complex.

Phase one of the building was completed in 2019 to support operations for the public works department, including utilities and environmental services and transportation.

What’s next

Phase two is estimated to begin next June, expanding the eastern portion of the complex. Key elements of this phase include the expansion of the main building for transportation field staff, expansion for utilities and environmental services staff, and new buildings to centralize operations for community and neighborhood services. This phase is expected to wrap up by June 2026.

Phase three will include the construction of a new facility for the general services fleet maintenance, including space for the department to grow and continue to maintain city vehicles. The project is expected to begin in July 2026 and complete in two years.

The last phase will include new space for facility maintenance and building construction management, as well as administrative offices for the general services department.
