Classes have been canceled in Round Rock ISD for Feb. 3-4 due to extreme weather.

An announcement shared with district parents states that the closure also extends to on-campus activities scheduled before and after school.

The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning Feb. 1 for multiple Texas counties, including Travis and Williamson counties, from 3 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 3. Weather conditions such as extreme icing with a mix of freezing rain and sleet are expected. Ice is expected to accumulate between 1/10 and 1/4 inch, with up to a half inch of sleet expected in the Hill Country. Winds may reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour, producing windchills as low as single digits.

The NWS storm warning also states that extended time spent outdoors without dressing in layers may result in hypothermia.
