The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking public input on its proposal to widen Hwy. 79 for safety and mobility improvements.

According to TxDOT, Hwy. 79 would be widened to include a third travel lane in each direction from I-35 to east of FM 1460. A raised median would also be installed for safety purposes.

Other improvements include the construction of an underpass at the Hwy. 79 and Mays Street intersection as well as the construction of an overpass at the Hwy. 79 and FM 1460 intersection. The proposal also includes reconfiguring the Hwy. 79 and I-35 intersection.

Driveways and access points would also be modified to aid traffic flow. To improve accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists, shared-use paths would be installed on both sides of Hwy. 79.

The first virtual public hearing was held Dec. 4. An animated model is available here. View the full schematic here.
