The Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Tuesday that the city will host the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association National Flag Football Championships in the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. “We are honored to host the NIRSA National Flag Football Championships in the Sports Capital of Texas. This is a fantastic tournament and organization that I’ve been involved with for many years, from officiating as a student to volunteering as a young professional, so I am personally very proud and excited for this new role hosting the event,” said Chad McKensie, Round Rock Sports Management and Tourism director, in today's news release. Texas last hosted the NIRSA National Flag Football Championships in 2012 at the Texas A&M campus in College Station. That was the second consecutive year the national championships had been held in College Station. The last six NIRSA National Flag Football Championships have all been held in the state of Florida, either at the University of Central Florida in Orlando or at the University of Western Florida in Pensacola. Round Rock will host the tournament three years in a row — beginning in 2020 — at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex. The 2017 NIRSA National Flag Football Championships included 68 teams with 761 participants. According to the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, tournament organizers said they are looking to include more Texas and West Coast teams for the national championship tournaments in Round Rock. This year alone, the city of Round Rock has already hosted several national championship tournaments, including the 2018 U.S. Quidditch Cup, 2018 USA Judo Senior National Championships, Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates Division I and Division II National Championships, USA Deaf Basketball National Tournament and the iSET College Table Tennis National Championships. Round Rock has already been announced as the host of the 2019 U.S. Quidditch Cup.
