After enjoying a successful tournament in April, U.S. Quidditch announced Friday Round Rock will host the sport's national tournament for the second year in a row. The 2019 U.S. Quidditch Cup will take place April 13-14, 2019, at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, located at 2001 N. Kenney Fort Blvd., Round Rock, at Old Settlers Park. Round Rock opened the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex, a 60-acre, $27 million addition to Old Settlers Park, in May 2017. The site includes eight multipurpose athletic fields and two championship-quality game fields—one grass and one turf. "We enjoyed true collaboration with U.S. Quidditch tournament organizers as we prepared for and hosted the event at our new Round Rock Multipurpose Complex this past year,” Nancy Yawn, director of the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau, said in a press release Friday. Round Rock hosted the 2018 U.S. Quidditch Cup in April. The tournament, focused on a game inspired by the “Harry Potter” novel series, attracted more than 60 collegiate teams in addition to two dozen community-based teams, according to the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau. In all, more than 4,000 people combined participated in or attended the tournament, according to the bureau. Team registration for regional championship qualifiers for the 2019 U.S. Quidditch Cup opens sometime this summer, according to organizers.
