The goal of Pflugerville City Council and City Manager Brandon Wade is to offer a budget with a $0.5399 property tax rate per $100 of valuation for fiscal year 2017-18.

The rate would be the same as last year and, according to Wade, will require some city cuts and adjustments to get there.

City Council set a special meeting for 9 a.m. Aug. 5 to go over the budget, line by line, with department heads and the city manager.

Wade said he will have a budget worked around that tax rate for City Council to review and discuss. He also said the rate will allow the city to maintain its debt obligations without adding more of a burden to the residents, most of whom saw increases in assessed values this year.

The city has until Aug. 22 to declare what its highest tax rate could be next fiscal year. Council members said the Aug. 5 meeting should show if the city can hit its goal of maintaining or decreasing last year’s tax rate.
