Doug Weiss was sworn in as Pflugerville mayor Dec. 22, during a special City Council meeting.

The overview

Weiss won the mayor’s race in a December runoff, defeating Pat McCord after receiving 56% of the vote.

Weiss previously served nine years on Pflugerville City Council before launching his mayoral campaign. He was sworn in by former Mayor Victor Gonzales, who served three terms allowed by the city charter.

During his acceptance remarks, Weiss emphasized that his campaign focused on seeking the office rather than opposing other candidates.

“My answer may have sounded scripted, but it was genuine,” Weiss said. “I’m not running against anyone. I’m running for mayor.”

Speaking to a packed council chamber, Weiss thanked residents who participated in the election, including those who did not vote for him.

“Thank you for showing up again in the runoff, making that effort to vote,” he said. “We know that is what really makes this city so amazing.”
