The city of Hutto is preparing to adopt the first updates to its water and wastewater master plans in several years.

At a Dec. 15 meeting, Hutto City Council will review, discuss and possibly take action adopting updated versions of the two plans.

The new water plan was developed by engineering firm Freese and Nichols, while the wastewater plan was developed by Garver. Work on both plans began in February.

In working on the plans, the two firms analyzed Hutto's water and wastewater capabilities, created demand projections through the next 25 years and developed a list of recommended projects.

Together, the two plans propose more than $600 million in water and wastewater improvements over the next 25 years, including treatment plant expansions and new pipelines.

Officials said the master plans will help ensure the city can keep up with growing demand for water.

The last updates to Hutto's water and wastewater master plans were in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
