Pflugerville City Council approved the city's Community Development Block Grant annual action plan for the 2022 program year at a July 26 meeting.

Through the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, the CDBG program provides eligible communities with annual grants that can be used for programs that help low- to moderate-income residents.

Pflugerville became eligible for the program in 2013. The city's five-year consolidated plan identifies infrastructure and community service as its two top priorities for CDBG funding.

For the 2022 program year, Pflugerville received an allocation of $243,926. The annual action plan approved July 26 establishes how the funding will be spent.

The plan indicates $207,300 will be used for installation of streetlights, $10,000 for a parks and recreation scholarship program, $25,000 for workforce training and $1,626 for administrative costs.

Assistant City Manager Emily Barron said the $207,300 for streetlight installation is expected to cover approximately 50 streetlights, primarily along the north side of East Pecan Street and in the Yellow Sage and Windermere areas.

The parks and recreation scholarship is a continuation of an existing program, and the workforce training comes through a partnership with Workforce Solutions.

Program applications and additional information are available on the city's website.
