After an extensive national search that lasted several months, the city of Hutto hired a new police chief.

On March 25, a news release from Hutto stated Jeff Yarbrough, the current chief of police for Round Rock ISD, will be the new chief for the Hutto Police Department effective Apr. 18.

“We’re confident Chief Yarbrough has the experience, knowledge and demeanor to effectively lead HPD and our community through this continuous growth,” Mayor Mike Snyder said in the release. “His

commitment to outreach and inclusion will well serve both the department and the community. We look forward to his work to effectively retain and recruit excellent officers.”

Among his qualifications, Yarbrough has 27 years of experience in law enforcement, is a U.S. Army veteran having served in Operation Desert Storm, and was an investigator with the Texas Attorney General's office.

Yarbrough takes over for interim Police Chief Jim Stuart, who took was appointed in October following the resignation of former Hutto Police Chief Paul Hall.
