Ongoing projects
Hwy. 71 and Tucker Hill Lane intersection improvements
Project: The Texas Department of Transportation is converting a signalized intersection at Tucker Hill Lane in Bastrop County into a grade-separated overpass and constructing new one-way frontage roads.
Update: A groundbreaking ceremony was held Oct. 28.
I-35 Drainage Tunnel and Pump Station
Project: The project will construct a drainage tunnel and pump station under I-35 to improve stormwater management and reduce flooding impacts along the corridor through Central Austin as part of the I-35 Capital Express Central project.
Update: According to TxDOT, work on the drainage tunnel and pump station is underway. As crews work on excavation, temporary lane closures and traffic shifts have been happening overnight and during off-peak hours.
Kohlers Crossing road extension
Project: The project will develop a new section of Kohlers Crossing in Kyle running from I-35 frontage road to Seton Parkway, with a future I-35 underpass connecting to this section. The project will create a direct route to destinations such as Ascension Seton Hays Hospital and nearby neighborhoods for drivers, improve traffic flow, and support Kyle Park, a mixed-use development bringing retail, restaurants and housing to Kyle’s east side.
Update: According to city officials, construction on the east-to-west connection began in late 2025. The underpass is in the design phase and is expected to enter the construction phase in late 2027.
Project: The project is addressing movement of Round Rock's Mays Street bridge retaining walls.
Update: According to city officials, one lane of traffic in each direction will remain open as city crews move from performing work on the bridge’s retaining walls to roadway improvements on top of the bridge, including replacing portions of the roadway approach and sidewalks, installing structural elements to lock both sides of the bridge walls together, and completing rail painting.
Old Iron Bridge rehabilitation
Project: The city of Bastrop is rehabilitating the Old Iron Bridge to include a concrete deck, steel truss components, railing and decorative lights.
Update: According to Bastrop officials, eastbound traffic on the Loop 150 bridge is closed to accommodate equipment needed for the rehabilitation.
Completed projects
183 North southbound express lanes, direct connector
Project: The 183 North Mobility Project includes two express lanes in each direction on US 183, a general-purpose lane to bring the number of nontolled lanes to four in each direction, new shared use path connections, new sidewalks and cross-street connections for bicycles and pedestrians.
Update: According to the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, the southbound express lane and direct connector opened Feb. 28. Ongoing lane closures are still expected as crews wrap up connections, landscape the area and add other finishing touches.
