Austin City Council Member Mackenzie Kelly is hosting an open house Jan. 25, 4-6 p.m. at her District 6 field office, 10401 Anderson Mill Road, Austin. Members of the public can ask the council member about topics of concern.

Representatives of Family Eldercare will be present to answer questions about Pecan Gardens, a property at 10811 Pecan Park Blvd. in Austin, that is slated to open as housing for people exiting homelessness. The Austin Police Department will also be there to discuss crime and safety in the community.

“I host these events to allow our constituents to bring up any issues or concerns in the district/neighborhood; these meetings are also the best way to make your voice heard, ” Kelly said in an email.

As reported by Community Impact, Austin City Council voted on May 19, 2022, to contract Family Eldercare for a negotiated $3.9 million to provide rehab work at the Pecan Gardens complex, previously known as the Candlewood Suites hotel. The property was in the news for criminal trespassing while it awaited renovations in May. Since then the property has security, Kelly's staff said. Once renovated, the suites will be converted to one-bedroom apartments with interior redesign and outside landscaping.

The public can share their concerns with Kelly at tomorrow’s meeting. Kelly’s office also plans to host weekend open houses in the future, Kelly’s Facebook post said.
