HokkaiSan expanded from its Japanese deli concept in South Austin to an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant in North Austin.
The background
The Japanese grocery store, owned by Jason Qiu, initially opened on South Congress in August. The store took over the former Royal Blue Grocery location and is stocked with sushi, hot meals and rare snacks.
After less than a year of operations, it recently expanded to a new concept: all-you-can-eat sushi. The restaurant started with a soft opening in late April and early May before holding its grand opening celebration on May 15.
