The concept joins a collection of dining and bar spots led by restaurateur Jason Carrier under the Carrier5 Hospitality group, which also operates Happy Slice Pizza on Parmer Lane and previously owned Dogwood in The Domain.
The inspiration
Carrier opened the original Mama Betty's location on Parmer Lane in March 2022 in honor of his late mother, Betty Carrier, a single mother who owned and operated a Mexican restaurant in Houston.
Though named for this mother, Carrier said that it is a tribute to all mothers—all women who put their family first and have the “whatever it takes” approach.
“We're beyond excited to bring my mother’s passion for great Tex-Mex and ‘whatever it takes’ hospitality to the Burnet Road neighborhood,” Carrier said in a statement. “We can’t wait to welcome our community through our doors and make sure all of our guests leave having felt at home and well-fed.”
What we know
The new location features the same menu items as its Avery Ranch location, offering Tex-Mex favorites, such as quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas and homemade tortillas.

The new space features a full indoor and outdoor bar as well as outdoor patio and green space, similar to the original location. The 4,000-square-foot, grassy, fenced-in area adjacent to the covered patio offers space for families to relax and children to play, according to a news release. Nonalcoholic options are also available.
