The chef duo behind Bill’s Oyster and Teddy’s Restaurant & Bar are opening VanHorn’s—a New York-inspired steakhouse—in Downtown Austin this fall.

The new concept will be led by chefs Daniel Berg and Dylan Salisbury, of the Austin-based Berg & Sons Hospitality. The company opened its first restaurant, Bill’s Oyster, in 2023 and opened Teddy’s Restaurant & Bar in 2024.

The menu blends fine dining with casual fare, featuring Pat LaFrieda steaks—sourced from the renowned East Coast butcher—alongside burgers, cocktails and wines at a range of price points, according to a news release.

The VanHorn’s menu will feature prime dry-aged cuts along with signature items such as braised lamb shepherd’s pie and Dover sole. Guests can also expect a focus on seafood, salads, shareable sides, as well as a raw bar showcasing seasonal selections.

“Too often, steakhouses are associated with stuffy, corporate atmospheres with menus at price points too steep for regular dining. We hope VanHorn’s will break tradition and become the neighborhood joint for locals—a place where guests can come in for a casual night out with friends or celebrate with a dry aged Porterhouse and Old-World red,” Berg said in a statement.

The 2,400-square-foot restaurant offers an intimate setting with seating for 95 guests across its dining room, bar and patio.
