A new Caribbean restaurant will soon open in East Austin.

The details

Local chef Janelle Romeo, also behind food truck Shirley's Trini Cuisine, is opening her newest concept, Twin Isle in September.

The restaurant's menu is inspired by the flavors of her native island, Trinidad and Tobago, and the surrounding Caribbean islands. Twin Isle will offer build-your-own bowls and family-style dishes.

On the menu

Some items that will be found on Twin Isle's menu include:
  • Aloo Pie; a fried pastry stuffed with a spiced potato mixture and topped with tamarind sauce
  • Oxtail-Fries; fries with shredded stewed oxtail, cheddar cheese, green onions and garlic sauce.
  • The Rip and Dip Roti; a flaky paratha roti with warm yellow dhal
  • Roti Wraps; with a choice of curry chicken, curry goat, coconut curry lobster or vegetables
  • The Oxtail Sandwich; with slow-braised oxtail, Swiss cheese, caramelized onions and garlic sauce on a toasted bolillo roll
The menu will also include seasonal specials.

Quote of note

“Opening Twin Isle is a deeply personal dream come true,” Romeo said in a news release. “This restaurant is a love letter to my Caribbean roots. Each dish tells a story of where I come from, who raised me, and what I want to share with Austin. I want every guest to feel like they’ve been welcomed into my home-with bold flavors, warm hospitality, and a little island soul in every bite.”
