Live Make Apartments

The 66-unit Live Make Apartments is fully reserved for low-income renters, with units ranging from studios to three-bedroom spaces. The project sits next to newly-dedicated parkland, which is now going through permitting as the city moves to improve the historic Tillery Pecan Grove site into a neighborhood park with public trails and amenities.East End Ballroom

Daruma Ramen

The ramen shop, formerly located off East Sixth Street, is slated to reopen at The Goodwin apartment complex after closing its doors in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The business is owned by Kayo and Takehiro Asazu, who also own Komé, Sa-Tén and Uroko, and Harry Chang. The restaurant is recognized for its refined, clear chicken-based ramen known as chintan broth.Counter Culture

The vegetarian and vegan restaurant Counter Culture is expected to open a new brick-and-mortar location in Windsor Park this fall. The restaurant was previously located on East Cesar Chavez Street for 11 years until it shuttered at the end of 2022. The concept more recently operated out of a food truck located in the back patio of Tweedy’s Bar near The University of Texas at Austin campus. Owner Sue Davis describes her menu as part bar food, part health food, including bowls, burritos, nachos, and a vegan macaroni and cheese.Max's Asian Bowls, Bao Tacos, Sushi


The Asian eatery specializes in bowls, lettuce wraps, sushi and bao tacos is planning a second location where Hi Hat Public House was once located, according to the restaurant's website. Max's has an additional location at 7318 McNeil Drive, Austin. The location will host a soft opening in late July.Relocations

Small’s Pizza

The East Coast-style pizzeria is set to open its first brick-and-mortar location in East Austin in late summer 2025, after years of operating as a food truck in various spots around the neighborhood. This local pie purveyor specializes in New England-style pizza, with offerings like the Tomato Pie—a classic New Haven staple with garlic, oregano, olive oil, and pecorino on a blistered, thin crust. The Anchovy Pie builds on that same base with salty anchovies and capers for a bold, briny bite, while the Sausage & Peppers pie adds sweet peppers, Italian sausage, and a touch of mozzarella, all without losing that signature coal-fired crunch.Closings

Mour Cocina Bodega


The contemporary Mexican cafe, wine and beer bar, and boutique market has closed its farm-to-table dining operation. While the bodega remains open, the kitchen will no longer be serving its globally inspired dishes. In an online announcement, the company said it was “taking a break.” Owner Felix Jimenez-Gamez did not share a specific reason for the closure but pointed to a GoFundMe launched to help cover unpaid loans and final business expenses. He also expressed hope that the cafe could reopen in the future.Milky Way Shakes

The food truck, which served vegan milkshakes with coconut and almond bases, announced its closure on social media. According to the post, the closure is due to the “challenging economic climate.”
