What to know
The business shared the news with the public via an Instagram post where the Moy family expressed their gratitude to the community for the years of support and relationships they’ve fostered.
Moy said after 31 summers of refreshing the Austin community, he’s made the decision to retire to spend more time with his family.
Customers will have the opportunity to enjoy the water ice before the business officially closes in September. However, the shop may close earlier if it runs out of its supply before then, Moy said.
The backstory
As a Philadelphia native, Moy learned through a friend who was a The University of Texas at Austin student at the time that Italian ice wasn’t a common treat throughout all states.
He later moved to Austin and opened the shop after learning the ice recipes from his brother in law, as stated on the business’s website.
On the menu
In addition to the over 30 flavors of water ice available, the business also sells ice cream, soft serve, floats and pretzels.
Some water ice flavors include Dragon’s Blood, Horchata, Passionfruit, Watermelon and Melon Ball.
