Hays CISD Superintendent Michael McKie intends to resign at the end of the school year, according to a district statement released Tuesday evening.
McKie informed his executive staff of his intentions to leave the district Tuesday afternoon, hours before the agenda for a meeting to discuss his resignation was posted. Because the board of trustees has not met or taken any action, he was unable to provide additional details.
Superintendent McKie and Board President Holly Raymond plan to issue a joint statement after the special meeting Friday.

A special meeting has been scheduled for the Hays CISD school board to meet this week to discuss and possibly accept the resignation of Superintendent Michael McKie.
The meeting is scheduled for Friday, 12 5 p.m. at Hays High School, 4800 Jack C. Hays Trail, Buda.
According to the agenda, posted on the district’s website Tuesday afternoon, much of the meeting will take place in closed session. Privately, the board will deliberate on McKie’s resignation, consult with legal counsel and brainstorm potential candidates for acting or interim superintendent.
Once they reconvene in open session, the Board of Trustees may vote whether to accept McKie’s resignation and who will temporarily replace him.
McKie has been district superintendent since May 2013. Previously, he served as interim superintendent for Fort Bend ISD and as a teacher. He has worked in education for more than 30 years.
