Cypress restaurant Hanan’s Cafe serves up breakfast and lunch dishes daily, made with local farm-fresh ingredients.

“We like to support local businesses,” owner Amy Vasquez said. “We also find that those ingredients are the freshest.”

All eggs used at the restaurant come from local farms, and the orange juice is squeezed fresh daily, Vasquez said.

The coffee shop and eatery serves Greenway Coffee—a Houston-based coffee company. Vasquez, who also co-owns d’Vine Wine Bar in Cypress, said the coffee is roasted each Tuesday and delivered to the cafe by Thursday.

Flavored coffee syrups are made in-house and include flavors, such as vanilla, caramel and pumpkin spice.

Hanan’s dining menu offers a variety of fresh breakfast and lunch options, including pancakes, crepes, salads and burgers.

Cafe regulars find the menu is always changing. The cafe displays a chalkboard menu that offers seasonal options based on in-season local produce.

The cafe does not sell liquor, but patrons can order beer, wine and wine-based cocktails. Each Friday, Saturday and Sunday the cafe offers bottomless mimosas, bloody marys and sangria.

Hanan’s Cafe—named after Vasquez’s 14-year-old daughter—honors three generations of Vasquez women. Soon after Vasquez’s mother passed away, Vasquez decided to honor her memory by opening the cafe.

“My mom had always wanted a tea room,” Vasquez said. “She would always drive by this space and tell me I needed to open a restaurant here.”

In August 2014—two months after her mother’s passing—Hanan’s opened to the public.

Vasquez and her daughter wanted the cafe to have a neighborhood-like feel. Customers are encouraged to stash their cellphones and get to know each other.

The dining area has a community table where strangers are challenged to sit and chat with patrons.

In the future, Vasquez hopes to open up more cafe locations. For now, she is focused on growing her customer base and is continuously looking for new farm-fresh breakfast and lunch options.

Black bean burger—The burger is made with a Challah bun, a housemade black bean patty, button mushrooms, spinach, tomato, avocado and fried onion strings ($14).

Chilaquiles—A crispy corn tortilla is tossed in roasted tomato, housemade salsa, garnished with sour cream and cheese and topped with a sunny side egg ($10).

Empanadas—A flaky pastry shell is stuffed with beef and veggies and served with a creamy cilantro dressing ($9).

Vanilla yogurt parfait—Vanilla yogurt is served with housemade granola, seasonal fruit and berries ($6).

Private events

Hanan’s Cafe is available for private parties, such as baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays and holiday parties.

• Private parties can be held any day of the week after 3 p.m. and include access to the space for three hours.
• The cafe can accommodate up to 80 guests.
• The private party menu consists of a selection of freshly prepared soups, salads and hors d’oeuvres served buffet-style. Dishes include smoked salmon crostini, melon-wrapped prosciutto and tenderloin sliders.
• Drinks include coffee, wine, wine-based cocktails, iced tea, lemonade and soft drinks.
• Brunch buffets are available for $15 per guest. Lunch buffets are available for $19 per guest.
