Gretchen Pruett, director of the New Braunfels Public Library, has been elected president of the Texas Library Association for the 2022-23 term, according to a TLA press release.

Pruett will take office following the TLA annual conference April 24-28, according to the release, and will work to advocate for libraries throughout the state.

“The library’s role in our communities as the source of credible and relevant information is being eroded by the continuing onslaught of misinformation,” Pruett wrote in the release. “When the information-seeking public needed us the most, the unprecedented pandemic closed our doors.”

Pruett has previously served as the chair of the TLA Legislative Committee, the chair of the Trustees and Advocates Round Table, and the treasurer of the TLA Executive Board, according to the release.

During her time as president, Pruett said she will work to help libraries recover from the pandemic and provide communities with access to information and resources.

“Libraries are more relevant than ever before to build strong communities and citizens,” Pruett wrote.
