Comal County reported 40 confirmed cases of the coronavirus on Saturday, June 20. Eight probable cases were also reported, which increased the total for both types to 346.

New Braunfels residents counted for 236 of those cases, and the city's residents in Guadalupe County account for 33 more.

Guadalupe County announced 10 new cases of the virus on Friday evening, bringing its total to 241. According to the county's Office of Emergency Management, there were an additional 87 cases pending confirmation by an epidemiologist.

The Office of Emergency Management also released additional details about a New Braunfels resident that died this week, noting that the resident was a male in their 50s. It was the first COVID-19 death reported by the county.

Hospitalizations for Guadalupe County residents remained at three.


On June 20, Comal County resident hospitalizations increased from five to eight. Seven of the county's resident have died from the virus.

There were 173 active confirmed and probable cases of the coronavirus in Comal County. There are 61 in Guadalupe County, not including the pending cases.

Testing positivity rates continue to climb

For the last seven days, nearly one in five residents in Comal County that tested for the coronavirus received a positive result, according to testing and case totals released by the county.


The positivity rate between June 13 and June 20 was 17.9%, based upon 868 tests and 155 confirmed and probable cases.

The positivity rate for June 1 through June 20 was 13%, with 247 cases discovered through 1,894 tests.

As of June 20, 4,869 tests have been conducted on Comal County residents, which is a 38.9% increase since testing began in March.
