Hillcrest Church is expected to open Hillcrest Children's Academy in August.

The details

Academy director Katherine Olinger said the church has been working on the vision for the daycare for five years.

The daycare will accept children ages six weeks to pre-K all year round in addition to accepting K-5th grade ages during the summer months. Olinger said the daycare is licensed to accommodate 200 to 250 students.

During the school year, children in K-5th grade can participate in the daycare’s after school program which is limited to selected schools including Hill Elementary School, Doss Elementary School and Pillow Elementary School.

Olinger said the program will be play-based and focus on kindergarten readiness with student assessments occurring two times a year. Expected to be open from 6:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m., the daycare will serve breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack.

What else?

Olinger said all community members are welcome to apply to the program, regardless of religious beliefs.

“We will run a faith-based curriculum but there are no requirements for families to be part of the church,” Olinger said.

Get involved

Olinger said the daycare is hoping to hire a team of 25 staff members who have experience working in a licensed child care center, experience with a Texas Rising Star program and a general desire to love and play with kids.

Families interested in enrolling children in the daycare program can visit the church’s website or call 512-345-3771.
