The Whitewing Drive and Larkspur Park Boulevard crossing under US 183 in Leander is set to close Sept. 6 at 11 p.m. and reopen Sept. 9 at 5 a.m.
What’s happening?
Over several weeks, field crews will work on reconstructing the current crossing’s single lane for traffic going straight and turning left by adding a lane in each direction, according to a news release from the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.
The Seward Junction Loop U-turn north of the crossing as well as the Green Valley Drive U-turn will be open throughout the weekend closure.
Crews will continue working on curbs, sidewalks and signals at the crossing as the full widening is expected to open in the fall.
The context
The lane widening is part of the CTRMA’s 183A Phase 3 Project to extend the existing 10-mile toll road as Williamson County continues to grow.
The road will span 5.3 miles from Hero Way in Leander to north of Hwy. 29 in Liberty Hill, adding two tolled lanes going north and south, with the project totaling 6.6 miles in length, according to the project’s website.
The project will add two tolled lanes within the median of the US 183 corridor, as well as introduce a shared-use path spanning from Hero Way to Seward Junction Loop.
The $259 million construction for Phase 3 began in spring 2021 and is set to open in early 2025, according to the website. Phases 1 and 2 of the 183A project opened in 2007 and 2012, respectively.
Residents can expect travel delays and detours throughout Phase 3 construction. Read the 183A Phase 3 Construction Guide here.
