Liberty Hill weighs raising utility rates

Liberty Hill City Council is slated to vote on water and wastewater rate hikes following a public hearing May 13.

A closer look

Finance Director Josh Armstrong said at the April 22 meeting that the rate hikes are necessary to fund infrastructure improvements and to pay down debt associated with those ongoing infrastructure projects.

He said the rate increases are a Year 2 step in the city's five-year 2025 Water Master Plan, the first step of which was adopted in April 2025. That plan highlighted the fact that the city could face future water shortages if it did not bolster its water infrastructure.

The proposed changes will raise utility rates across the board. Inside the city limits, the monthly minimum charge for a standard 5/8-inch or 3/4-inch meter would increase from $45.36 to $50.12. Outside the city, it would increase from $56.70 to $62.65.

Monthly residential wastewater rates would increase from $66.65 to $70.98 inside the city limits and from $72.36 to $77.06 outside.

Should council members approve the measure, the new rates will go into effect in June and be reflected on July bills, Armstrong said.
