The city of Leander plans to open its new senior center in January.

Russell Alabastro, Leander Capital Improvement Program project manager, said at the Dec. 18 City Council meeting that he expects the project to be substantially completed by the end of the month.

City Manager Todd Parton said the city is planning on holding a ribbon-cutting in January and a formal dedication ceremony later in the year, likely March.

The structure is completed, as well as the sidewalks around the building.


Alabastro said workers are finishing the final steps, including:
  • Mechanical and electrical trim
  • Furniture installation
  • Landscaping and irrigation
  • Final flooring
  • Final paint
  • Cleaning

The senior center is located at 709 Municipal Drive and will include a variety of amenities, including:
  • Multipurpose room
  • Full kitchen
  • Fitness room
  • Activities room
The background:

The senior center has been in the works for years. It was part of the city’s 2016 bond package.

Community Impact previously reported that the construction of the facility was delayed multiple times, including a lengthy pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The city broke ground on the facility in May 2024.
