Liberty Hill City Council gave the go ahead to staff June 11 to apply for federal funding dispersed through the Texas Department of Transportation to support widening the sidewalks along Main Street.

If approved, the grant would support the city in doubling the width of the walkways from five feet to 10 feet, according to agenda documents.

How we got here

The TxDOT Public Transportation Division oversees federal funding programs, including funds relating to TxDOT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Program, according to the documents. The department will recommend projects to the Texas Transportation Commission.

If approved, the funds would be supplied some time between 2026 and 2029.

City staff recommended the walkway expansion to establish a cohesive shared-use path, according to the documents.
